More Bat removal in New Orleans! This Job required 2 manlifts as there was an inner courtyard and the exterior  wall where bats were present in about 3 locations.

This is a view of me driving the scissor lift into the building
Once inside you can see that sometimes a bat removal requires much more knowledge than just the bat work! This was a tight fit in the height and the width.
The next picture shows just how tall this thing was in relation to the door frame, and of course once inside we had 2 more doors to pass through to get to the courtyard

Once in the courtyard it was this metal cap that the bats were getting into. Bats love high places!

Notice how tight to the wall we have to work.

In the end the bats were removed and this job went well. This is a New Orleans school but I am not at liberty to name which one. I can say that this building is now bat free!

Bat Guano - "What does bat poop look like?" here ya go here's some New Orleans bat poop for ya!

Bat Guano Pictures in and around New Orleans

"What does bat poop look like?"

Here are many pictures of local bat poop that I took on several jobs!

Since I am a wildlife removal technician, specializing in the removal of bats from attics (walls, chimneys, etc) in the New Orleans area - AND nobody else is providing any good pictures of bats, bat guano, bat poop, bat droppings, bat infestations, from local jobs! I thought I would.

Everyone loves some good old bat poop now and then right? Josh, would rather wear a respirator than breathe in all the attics fiberglass insulation - but he;s just being smart!

Bat feces on the window sill

Bat crap top right of window - what a mess!

Bat entry point - poop and just plain old sebum! Nasty bat mess on the wall!

More bat poop on the window sill of yet another window

Its hard to find anyone who removes bats in the first place so it is understandable that you would have trouble finding real local pictures of bat guano (poop) from our area. New Orleans has a pretty active and healthy population of bats but not alot of people who do it.

This is going up the stairs!

Heres a view of the guano from the top

Now that's a huge pile of Bat poop and frankly WAAAAY more than you would typically encounter.
I think you will find that the pictures of the bat poop by the windows is even a bit extreme.
Heres what some typical bat poop looks like on a typical job.

Notice the small size of the bat poop and not really a huge pile, bat guano differs from a typical new orleans gecko turd - a lizard will have a white cap like a cigar ash - a bat turd will not!
if your NOT sure what your looking at and you want a second opinion give me a call at 504-338-7517
I know my crap (as they say in the "business")!!!

Bat Guano is a mess!

Bat Bugs - New Orleans

Bat Bugs - New Orleans

Bat Droppings (Bat poop) and Bat Bugs

Bat poop often has bugs in it, why not it IS a nitrogen rich medium! When I perform an exclusion I sometimes see bat bugs and or bat mites. Because bats are mammals they are prone to all sorts of things just like any other mammal. I remove bats from attics, and can teach you how to remove a bat but in this blog I am just covering the bugs I see. Pictures of bat poop almost always show bugs if you know what to look for. The following pictures show bugs on some of my bat removal cones, or bat valves.

Have a friend who thinks they have bat bugs? You can share this blog with them, but they should call an exterminator to treat for them. It is my understanding that the bugs cannot complete their life cycle in an ongoing basis without the bats or a host like them. Humans just are not a good host for the bat bugs. You should properly ID the bugs first. If you do not have bats you may have BIRD mites. The bat bugs pictured here were definitely from a bat roost and they are mites.

Ultrasonic repellents

Ultrasonic repellents simply DO NOT WORK in my opinion. You can try it but effective control of bat bugs starts with getting rid of the bats - then your local pest control guy can get rid of the bugs. Treating just for bugs while NOT removing the bats will fail just like treating your house for fleas and not the cat or dog - the bugs will rebound.

This is what a true Bat Bug looks like up close notice how similar to the bedbug it looks. This Bat bug was found at a bat roost in the downtown Covington area.

Bats are BACK in River Ridge!

Bats are flying and back again in River Ridge - I removed many from homes there last year but once again I am getting those calls. The Home I investigated last night has them in a column near the back of the house. He saw them while sitting on his back porch and searched the internet. He said he found me here on this blog, and he also said how important it was to him to find a local bat removal guy.
I am glad to serve the residents with these services and glad he found me. Bats can be very difficult to remove on your own and if your not careful you can create an even bigger problem.

This location is near one of the main shopping centers in River Ridge, so at least I will have a place close by to catch lunch before I head back down to DuLac, LA where there's several camps with bats in them as well.

Bats getting in by a window!
Many of the camps in Du Lac Louisiana are often built by the same builders, which means if your neighbors camp has bats  - you might have them too! Bats seem to like to go into similar entry points. For instance, if you see bats going into a crack by a window on one house you may see the same thing on yours! If bats are entering or flying by a piling under one camp - you may find them visiting several camps in the same way.

Till next time

remember, bats are beneficial!

Bats in River Ridge LA

River Ridge Louisiana still showing signs of a strong bat population still! Here's a picture of some bats that simply needed to go! They just didn't want to go! These bats only hung around a day or so and then found a new place, but more than likely they already had additional headquarters in mind. Bats in New Orleans are the Mexican Free-tailed variety and are rather small so they can literally tuck in almost anywhere. Small cracks and crevices are what they prefer and the hotter the better it seems - I read that bats prefer 109 degree temps to raise young but I have seen them on the underside of a shingle measuring 143! That's hot!

If you see that dirty wall, that's what happens in one night but after repeated use bats can really muddy up an area, check out the following picture!
This house had bats in the column posts! If you have brown spots like these on your columns, then you might have bats! If you are not sure - give me a call! We clean out attic insulation, bat crap (Guano) and we can even replace the insulation as well! We sub out the A/C work but when we are done it is all handled!

Bats, and bat houses in New Orleans

Bat hiding from Isaac!

Bats in New Orleans - After Isaac!

This year so far the bats seem to be in certain areas and not in others as usual. In other words I am seeing them in some of the usual cities but others seem to be void this year and that's kinda normal as the population tends to drift annually - or at least the nuisance calls do!

For instance, I have not had a single call for bats in Destrehan, LA and I usually do - however New Orleans East is still rocking with bats!

The ever faithful River Ridge area is still seeing bats as well as Harahan. I am seeing them in Mandeville, Covington, and Slidell and this is all AFTER hurricane Issac! So all in all the hurricane did not affect the bats much!

SO if your worried about bats in New Orleans, don't ! They are doing fine! On the other hand if your looking to help them further you can always buy a bat house and give them a place to spend the night. They are great for insect control and we could always use that around here!

Bats in New Orleans - New Orleans East

Looks like bats are in the news again! This time it is in New Orleans East. I was called by one guy who owns 3 buildings on the same street, and the next day by a tenant who lives down the street. It seems the bats have been bouncing around that area for awhile. I think the age and condition of the buildings played a part in where we are today with this. The bats have long been reported in the area.

I watched the news last night, knowing that they would be airing the story. Funny how they always call me as an expert but never once mention my name or company name! I am busy enough though and can't actually handle more work at this point, but jeez can't they at least name me once? Rant over, lol.

What can you do?
Bats love brick structures and there is something you can do about it, seal the building before they get in! I can guide you or do it for you, just give me a call at

Bats in New Orleans - Lakefront area

The bat calls have slowed up now, we are only doing one job and it is complete. We have removed bats from a lakefront home but thats about it. I do not know where they go this time of year, I do not think they leave but they certainly are not "moving" into new roosts this time of year.
I will check on the bats in the clearview area bridge. I wonder if they are still there and if they are numerous.
I built a new bat house website, I hope some new orleanians will consider buying a bat house and keep our friends housed.
You can find it at Bat Houses

Bat removal in River Ridge Louisiana and Other New Orleans cities

I do not know what it is but we have done at least 5 bat removals in the River Ridge area this year already! It wouldn't be so bad except it is a pretty small town. We did 2 on one particular street and I am fairly certain the bats were at both places all along.

The other job we are doing in that area is an attic insulation cleanout. New Orleans area attics can be pretty rough in the summer months - cleaning an attic in this heat is very difficult but we manage. You can check out our check list of items we need in an attic here - Attic Insulation Removal Checklist
I think you will find that our work is work nobody else wants - but it is picking up!

We are also removing bats from Mandeville in 2 locations. I find this time of year we do alot of bat work where there are no bats present but they were there and we find a few dead ones in the attic. After the mexican free-tailed bat mates the sexes segregate and that leaves a few attics to be invaded and then abandoned!

So you will sometimes find the batcave empty.

I will be adding more as time goes on - not too interesting other than to look back and to keep seeing the same bat locations over and over and of course I am reminded of all those hot attic insualtion cleanouts we are doing and have done - whew!
